This is the thrid blog in the GCC series. You can look at the previous ones here: GCC capability GCC story.
Anti-fragility is the ability of a system, person, or organisation to not only withstand stressors, volatility, and disorder but to actually improve, grow, and thrive because of them ~ Nicholas TalebWhile reams have been written about the impact of AI on tech-enabled work scapes, it also brings an opportunity for creating an anti-fragile moment for the GCCs.
For years the strategic work stayed close to HQ. The GCC was handed execution. The reasoning was simple — HQ held the customer context, the market intelligence, the product direction. The GCC held the delivery capability. HQ decided the mandate for the GCC.GCC executes.
With the play of AI in execution, GCCs can now pause, reflect and take a hard look at the scope that they are working on.
This is the moment for GCC leaders to stop inheriting their workload and start designing it. The question is not whether the opportunity exists. It does. The question is whether they will act on it deliberately.
What would be a more intentional way of looking at your work scope?

(c) Intentional GCC - The 4 R framework
Retire - Stop it in a timeframe.
Dont's
❌ Keep it because stopping feels uncomfortable
❌ Wait for someone to tell you to stop
Dos
✅ Automate or eliminate
✅ Frame it as a strategic choice not a resource conversation
Retain - Own it well.
Dont's
❌ Just maintain it — that is how it becomes tomorrow's Retire. This is your Cash cow.
Dos
✅ Invest in elevating it.
Reinvent - Transform it before AI does.
Dont's
❌ Ignore it because it is running well today
❌ Defend it as it is — that is not a strategy
Dos
✅ Ask what this work looks like when AI handles execution and humans own the judgment
✅ Pilot one reimagined version before scaling
Reach - Claim new territory.
Dos
❌ Wait for permission to explore.
❌ Let the busyness of 'Retain crowd it out permanently.
Dont's
✅ Identify one Reach area every quarter worth investing.
✅ Bring a point of view on it to your next stakeholder conversation — unsolicited.
Reflection questions for GCC leaders
If you were designing your GCC's mandate from scratch today — what work would you choose to own?
What is the one piece of work your GCC is doing that AI could do — or is already doing?
What is the work your GCC is not doing — that it should be owning completely?
What is your blue ocean?
Which of the 4 Rs is an important-urgent conversation for you right now?
Stay tuned for the next in GCC series.
